Gushi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Liulin, Yangshan Coal Mine, Gushi, Henan. It was named by Wang Rennong et al. in 1994.
Lithology and Thickness
Silty Sandstone. The formation is slightly metamorphosed, consisting mainly of light-gray and gray-green thick-bedded silty sandstone, occasionally with silty bands, and pebbled quartzose sandstone, pebbled sandstone, siliceous slate, thin-bedded slate, etc. 227 m thick
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Disconformable contact with the overlying Lower Carboniferous Dayangshan Fm
Upper contact
Disconformable contact with the underlying Upper Devonian? Huayuanqiang Fm [Not in Devonian Lexicon]. [However, nearby Devon79 column has Nanwan Fm]
Regional extent
Also seen at Shangcheng, Zhechuan and Neixiang of Henan, Zhen’an and Fengxian of southern Shaanxi et al. besides Gushi of Henan and Meishan of Anhui

Fossils
Plants Archaeocalamites scrobiculatus, Sublepidodendron sp., etc. The lower part yields Spore-Pollen, which is dominated by Convolutispora sp., Mesh spores and ring spores, and Endosporites sp., including Leiotriletes ornatus, Convolutispora mellita, Reticulatisporites cancellatus, Dictyotriletes cf. rivialis, Knoxisporites literatus, Cordylosporites cf. papillatus, Dibolisporites distinctus, Retusotriletes incohatus, Retusotriletes cf. mirabilis, Crassispora cf. kosankei, etc.

Depositional setting
It is interpreted as a marine-continental molasse formation, and was under a relict sea basin environment when formed
